Archaeology, History and the Environment of the Mediterranean (6 ECTS)

1st Semester

Aim of the module is to introduce students to the theory, methods and research questions of the discipline of archaeology, as well as the basic principles of sciences collaborating with archaeology. The module provides the necessary knowledge which will enable students to fill the gaps of their curricula and proceed with their studies in the MSc program.

The module consists of two main units. The first is related to the geological processes of the Querternary, and includes issues of dating, palaeoenvironment reconstruction, ecology, and the complex relationship between humans and their einvironment. The second focuses on the archaeology of the Mediterranean from prehistory to the modern era, with special emphasis on research questions related to the study of archaeological material remains.
