MSc in Archaeological Science

STRUCTURE

The program runs for three (3) semesters (18 months), starting in September each year. The academic year begins on September 1st of each year and ends on August 31st of the following year. Each academic year is divided into two academic terms or semesters.

The taught part of the program covers the first two semesters, while the third is for writing the MSc thesis. The structure is a s follows:

  1. Semester 1 (Fall semester of the first year) is from mid-September to January (30 ECTS)
  2. Semester 2 (Spring semester of the first year) is from February to June (30 ECTS)
  3. Semester 3 (Fall semester of the second year) is for the completion of the MSc thesis on a research project chosen by the student in consultation with the supervisor (30 ECTS).

The completion of the program requires the attendance of a total of 7 compulsory semester-long modules over two semesters, and the completion of an MSc thesis in the third semester. Each module may include:

  1. Lectures in the classroom
  2. Practicals and hands-on tutorials in laboratories
  3. Field trips

The duration of teaching per course may vary from 3 to 6 hours every week, over a 13- week-semester. The amount of teaching and work load is translated into a certain number of credits (ECTS).

Teaching is in English. Essays can be submitted in English or Greek.
