Dimitris Michailidis is the manager of the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. He holds a BSc in Anthropology from the University of Kent, UK, an MSc in Paleobiology from Bristol University, UK, and a PhD in Paleontology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He has participated in palaeontological projects, spanning from the early Miocene to the Holocene in Greece, Cyprus, Libya, and Germany, and archaeological projects from several sites in Greece (Palaeolithic to Hellenistic).
His research focuses on the taxonomic identification, taphonomic study, and paleoecological analysis of birds from paleontological and archaeological sites, allowing for the paleoecological reconstruction of these sites. It also provides insights into the use of birds as food, raw materials for tools, and as symbols in ancient societies.
